Compare designs before prices
| Example | Exact configuration | Main trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Greenworks 25322 | 16-inch deck, push mower; 40V 4Ah battery and charger | Manual push; runtime depends on lawn conditions. |
| Greenworks LMF414 / 2515602 | 21-inch deck, self-propelled mower; 40V 5Ah battery and charger | Self-propelled; check the weight and handling before choosing. |
| WORX WG779 | 14-inch deck / 13-inch cut; two 20V 4Ah batteries and charger | Narrow cut; both batteries are needed together. |
Define the complete purchase cost
For a strict $500 ceiling, count the new mower or exact kit, required batteries and charger, any necessary extension cord or other essential accessory, mandatory shipping, and sales tax for your US delivery address. Do not count optional future tools as part of the mower package. A bare tool is only a complete solution if you already own compatible equipment documented by the manufacturer.
Record the selected model and kit, new condition, seller, delivery location, date and checkout total. Do not use used or renewed offers, trade-ins, membership-only deals, conditional coupons or a different variant to qualify a model. If the total exceeds the ceiling, exclude it from your purchase shortlist. We do not publish Amazon prices or claim that any example meets this test today.
Greenworks 25322: a compact push kit
The linked configuration pairs a 16-inch-deck push mower with a 40V 4Ah battery and charger. This is not a self-propelled mower. The manufacturer advertises up to 40 minutes of runtime; that is a conditional claim, not a guarantee for your grass, cutting height or property. Check the exact kit rather than substituting a bare tool or inferring coverage from battery capacity.
Greenworks LMF414 / 2515602: a self-propelled kit
The linked configuration is the 21-inch self-propelled 40V kit with a 5Ah battery and charger, identified by SKU 2515602. Do not confuse it with other LMF414 packages, including SKU 2521202, or borrow their runtime claims. It illustrates the cost and handling questions introduced by a wider self-propelled mower. It is not an under-$500 winner or an assumed discounted offer.
WORX WG779: a narrow battery design
The US WG779 uses two 20V Max batteries together. The linked kit is the two-4Ah-battery configuration with a charger. Its manual distinguishes a 14-inch deck from a 13-inch cutting diameter; the marketing size is not a 14-inch cut. Both packs are needed to operate the mower, so a single spare pack does not provide a second complete set. Compare storage and access needs against the extra passes required by a narrow cut.
Match the design to the lawn
Measure the grass you actually cut, check gates and storage access, and consider obstacles, mowing frequency and the effort you can manage. A compact mower may fit a tight route while requiring more passes. Self-propelled drive does not establish slope safety: follow the exact model manual and do not treat this guide as a slope rating.
Allow for equipment you do not own
Battery platforms are not interchangeable merely because their advertised voltages match. Confirm compatibility with the exact mower and charger. For a corded mower, include a compliant extension cord; for a reel mower, consider adjustment and sharpening requirements. Do not assume a larger battery or an extra charger is included because another listing shows one.
When the budget does not fit
If no suitable complete purchase qualifies, change the mower category, postpone the purchase or revise the budget explicitly. Do not select an unsuitable mower to reach a price target. A lower checkout total does not solve inadequate runtime, an unsafe cable route or a mower that you cannot handle comfortably.

What this guide establishes
This guide explains how to compare cordless configurations around a $500 planning limit. It does not establish a current under-$500 offer, guaranteed coverage or a universal best mower. Make a price-qualified shortlist only after completing the purchase checklist for your delivery address.
